Tourism and Hotel Management Program

The Tourism and Hotel Management Program within the scope of Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Services started its activities as formal education in the 2015-2016 academic year. In the same academic year, students were admitted to the evening education. In consideration of the 2019 – 2020 academic year, the number of active students enrolled in our Tourism and Hotel Management Program is 145 for daytime education, 126 for evening education. The number of our graduates is 85 for daytime education and 55 for evening education. Our vocational school, where compulsory internship is also a part of education, continues to provide an efficient education opportunity to students with its semi-olympic swimming pool and 73 room practice hotel.
 
Content of Tourism and Hotel Management Program

Degree Awarded
Graduates who successfully complete the program are awarded an Associate Degree Diploma in Tourism-Hotel Management.

Admission Requirements
Candidates must have a high school or equivalent school diploma, and they must receive sufficient points from the relevant field of the central exam administered by ÖSYM. The way of education is in the form of daytime and evening education.

Qualification  Requirements
In order to successfully complete all of the courses in the program (totally 120 ECTS) , students need to have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and they must successfully complete the 60-day internship in the current practice.

Prior Education
“The provisions of the Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major / Minor and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfer” are applied.
 
History

Program Profile
The aim of Tourism and Hotel Management Program is to train individuals equipped with the ability to use and analyze the theoretical knowledge about the tourism sector. In addition, it aims to train people who will be able to work in the middle and upper management levels of tourism enterprises, it also aims to train students who attach importance to ethical values. Another aim is to raise self-confident individuals who can follow and interpret the developments in the sector and in the world. In addition to the theoretical courses related to the tourism sector, the students of  Tourism and Hotel Management Program can improve their skills in using their theoretical knowledge with applied courses such as front office and housekeeping automation systems and food and beverage services automation systems in the computer laboratory.

Program Outcomes
Students
1. have general information about the tourism sector and the ability to use this basic information in working life.
2- have a foreign language knowledge at the A2 General Level of the European Language Portfolio (at least they have enough English to follow the information in the field of Tourism and Hotel Management and communicate with their colleagues).
3- have basic service skills for tourism and hotel management.
4- recognize and use the physical environment, tools and technologies related to the field.
5- have knowledge about legal regulations, professional standards and practices in his field.
6- act in accordance with the ethical values ​​of the organization/institution, business and society.
7- can use computer software and communication technologies basically.
8-have the ability to find and solve case studies, research, advantages, opportunities and disadvantages for swot analysis of tourism events.
9- fulfill, evaluate and develop service processes related to their fields in line with consumer needs and wishes in a way that satisfies the consumer.
10- pay attention to personal care, hygiene, clothing and appearance as required by the field.
11- Students are open to change and innovation.
12- have professional self-confidence skills.

Exams, Assessment and Grading
Every student has to attend classes, practices, laboratories, projects, seminars, workshops, semester studies, graduation projects. Students who do not attend at least 70% of the theoretical courses and 80% of the applied and laboratory studies are not allowed to take the final exams from those courses. Students have to repeat the relevant course until they fulfill the attendance requirement in theoretical courses. Exams are usually in written form. However, the lecturer may also decide to hold an oral exam. According to the content of the courses, students can also be directed to project work provided that it is stated on the information form. Exams of the courses are given by the lecturers who teach the course. Make-up exams can be given to students who have an excuse with the approval of the board of directors within 15 days from the end of the midterm exam.

Graduation Requirements

Graduate Employment
Our graduates can work in different positions in hospitality industry such as hotels, motels, holiday resorts, also they can work in food and beverage sectors such as restaurants, bars, entertainment centers, and they can work in travel enterprises such as travel agencies and tour operators. In addition, they can work in the central and provincial organizations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism apart from private sector organizations.  Graduate students who have foreign language and sufficient professional knowledge have the opportunity to work abroad in the rapidly developing and globalizing sector.
 
Upgrading
Candidates who successfully complete their Associate Degree education can study in Undergraduate programs according to the results of the Vertical Transfer Examination.
